In a shocking turn of events, Titan Forge Games has announced a drastic new update for SMITE 2: the game will be abandoning its classic third-person perspective and shifting to a top-down view, similar to traditional MOBAs like League of Legends.

Citing a dwindling player base and an overwhelming demand for more "strategic gameplay," the developers have decided that the best way to reinvigorate the game is by completely changing how it’s played.

"We realized that players just love clicking to move. The third-person perspective was holding SMITE back.

People don’t want to aim abilities manually anymore; they want to auto-attack from a safe distance.

This is the future."

A Bold Move to Save the Game

Following the launch of SMITE 2, many players expressed disappointment over the game’s departure from SMITE 1, with some lamenting the loss of their skins and others criticizing the balance changes.

The switch to a top-down perspective is being positioned as a "last-ditch effort" to revive interest.

"We noticed that every other MOBA uses top-down view, and they’re doing fine.

So why not us?

We’ve already taken everything players loved from SMITE 1, so this just makes sense"

New Features and Changes

With the transition to a top-down camera, the game will receive a host of gameplay adjustments:

  • Click-to-Move and WASD Controls – No more obligatory WASD!

Players will now control gods with precise mouse clicks.

  • Auto-Targeting Abilities – Say goodbye to skill shots!

Abilities will now automatically home in on enemies, ensuring a "fair and balanced" experience.

  • Minion Aggro Rework – Minions will now be more powerful than ever, scaling infinitely as the game progresses.

  • Jungle Removed – Since nobody ever wards it anyway, the jungle is being removed in favor of wider lanes.

  • True MOBA Experience – Last-hitting minions will now grant gold, towers will regenerate over time, and surrender votes will start at minute two with only one player needed to surrender.

"We love making new and unique gameplay.

Adding classic top-down camera but keeping WASD movement makes SMITE 2 ICONIC."

The Community Reacts

Fan reactions have been mixed while some players have praised the bold decision, calling it "the most innovative change since SMITE 1." Others, however, are skeptical.

"So you’re telling me I spent years mastering skill shots just to get auto-attacks and click-to-move?" one concerned player asked on social media.

Regardless of opinions, Titan Forge Games is confident that this shift will be the fresh start that SMITE 2 needs.

"We believe this is exactly what the community has been asking for.

And if not, we can always release SMITE 3 next year"

The spokesperson added.

When Does the Change Go Live?

The new top-down update will be rolling out today, April 1st, 2025, with all gods receiving complete reworks to accommodate the new gameplay style.

Players who log in during the first week will receive an exclusive "Goodbye, Skill" avatar and a special "League of Smite" title to commemorate the occasion.

Whether this radical shift will save SMITE 2 or mark its ultimate downfall remains to be seen.

One thing’s for certain: the battleground of the gods will never be the same again.

As a last note, Titan Forge Games asks to be calm on mouse issues as they have announced an exclusive partnership with leading peripheral brands for a special discount on new ultra-durable mouses with a built-in counter to track your total clicks per game. Players who manage to exceed one million clicks in a month will receive an in-game "Broken Mouse" title to commemorate their dedication.

"Our goal is to make sure every player has the best possible clicking experience. Plus, it’s a great way to sell more mice.

Everyone wins!"
