Gods are the playable characters in SMITE 2, embodying legendary deities, mythical figures, heroes, and supernatural beings drawn from ancient mythology, folklore, and cultural tales. Each God has a distinct playstyle and unique abilities that set them apart on the battlefield.
In most game modes, each team can only have one instance of any given God. Players cannot select the same God as a teammate. In Ranked or Draft modes, a God can only be picked by one player across both teams.
Pantheons
Every God in SMITE 2 belongs to a specific Pantheon, reflecting their mythological or cultural origin. The current 15 Pantheons represented in the game are:
Arthurian
Celtic
Chinese
Egyptian
Greek
Hindu
Japanese
Korean
Maya
Norse
Polynesian
Roman
Tales of Arabia
Voodoo
Yoruba
These Pantheons not only categorize the Gods by their origin but also add thematic flavor to their lore, visual design, and abilities.
God Roles
In SMITE 2, each God is assigned a Role that indicates their primary position or function within a team. The available roles are:
Solo – Durable Gods suited to 1v1 scenarios and sustained pressure in isolated lanes.
Jungle – Roaming assassins or initiators that thrive in surprise attacks and control of jungle objectives.
Mid – Typically powerful ability-based Gods who focus on damage from a central lane position.
Carry – High-damage Gods who scale with time and focus on outputting consistent damage, often from ranged basic attacks.
Support – Gods who specialize in protecting allies, providing utility, and initiating fights.
Unlike previous systems, Gods no longer follow rigid class archetypes. Instead, they are designed with flexibility in mind, allowing some Gods to adapt to multiple roles based on team composition and player strategy.
Damage Types and Stats
Each God deals one type of damage primarily in their kit (barring some exceptions): Physical or
Magical. Independent of the type of damage a God does, a God can build Intelligence or Strength. Each ability a god has will usually have a specific set scaling number that determines how much Intelligence, Strength, Protections, or etc. will contribute to the abilities damage or healing. Certain items such as [ITEM:(1924)Mystical Mail] or [ITEM:(151)Bragi's Harp] will always do a certain type of damage (in this case, Magical.) regardless of who builds it. Some Gods scale entirely with Intelligence, some entirely with Strength, and others with both. Gods that scale off of both are considered to have "hybrid" scaling.
An example for demonstration is provided below.
[GOD:Neith]'s first ability is Spirit Arrow. It has a developer-determined scaling of 95% Strength, and 75% Intelligence. This ability's damage will always do Physical Damage no matter what. If Neith has 330 Strength, this ability will do 340 Base Damage and an additional 95% of her Strength, which is an additional 314 damage. If Neith has 721 Intelligence, this ability will do 340 Base Damage and 75% of her Intelligence, which is an additional 496 damage. If Neith has 210 Strength and 253 Intelligence, this ability does 340 Base Damage and 389 extra damage from both scalings.
Unlike previous systems, all Gods can purchase any item in the game, regardless of whether they are a Physical or Magical God. However, if a God equips an item that provides a Stat they do not scale from, the damage-related stats have no effect. Despite this, any passive or active abilities from items will still function as long as their conditions are met.
Aspects
God aspects are modifiers that you can choose to toggle before a game starts, which change a character's playstyle dramatically and/or changes certain interactions within their kit.
For example, [GOD:TheMorrigan]'s Aspect of Mischeif, removes her ability to go invisible with her 3rd ability, Confusion, but allows her to swap places with her clone on reactivation.
Most aspects have this "give-and-take" dynamic, where they weaken one aspect of an ability while buffing another aspect, allowing for unique playstyles.
God Acquisition
Players gain temporary access to five Gods on a rotating basis. SMITE 2 currently does not have any permanently unlocked default Gods, meaning new players must use the rotation until they unlock more. To unlock additional Gods permanently, players spend either Diamonds or
God Tokens .The majority of Gods cost
600, while the most recently released God is priced at
900 for a limited time (typically four weeks or until the next content update). After this period, the new God’s cost is reduced to the standard cost. Additionally, they are unable to be purchased with a God Token until a similar amount of time has passed as mentioned before.
Players looking to unlock the full roster can purchase the Founder''s Pack, which grants access to all existing Gods and any future Gods added to the game. This bundle also refunds Diamonds and Legacy Gems for any Gods previously unlocked individually. This is Smite 2's version of the God Pack from Smite 1.
